A change is good ... like the scrolling content, like the new font in the logo (where did u get that?), would like to see the header take up less vertical space, agree that the pic of u is bit ... well, let's just say I hope it's a place holder. The overall effect is counter-culture to your leading edge career and life style ... not a judgement, just an assessment of the joe reger brand.

1. Yes--you should be very comfortable and be able to comfortably contact the lever. Test this on fast rollers and Gap descents. You can fly down the gaps in the drops. 2. Can name some downsides to too narrow but not too wide. Too wide--do you feel that you have too much space from the stem to the hoods? That would just give you more positions when doing long climbs in the mtns. I know some pepole runner wider bars to allow more air to get into their system. Physical/mental...? Who knows. Bottom line is you need to be 100% comfortable in the saddle. I spend a lot of times out on the hoods--so that position needs to be very comfortable. Practice sprinting/riding in the drops--this will save you when people attack. Have fun at the Gaps. Let me know when you want to ride..

I saw this documentary, and while as it's sad to see the meerkats get picked off one by one, it's how nature is. I wouldn't call it the WORST, rather the rawest i've seen yet. It didn't try to sugar-coat things, those are the obstacles countless animals. It's not for the faint hearted, but as you put so elegantly: it's life. I'm glad that at least Digger survived, though the last scene to me inspired an ironic little laugh - "Hurray", i thought, "Digger, after all this time and strife, ends his epic quest with a wee bit of fun. All is 'well'..."

I was flying back to San Antonio and it was an exceptional night to be flying -- the air was very clear and the view from the top was extraordinarily clear. I actually noticed how bright it was but I didn't know why until I got off the plane and saw the moon. Driving home, we noticed that in the country everything was lit well enough by the moon to be able to see details of the trees, etc. An awesome picture and we're glad you still enjoy the telescope!

Dear Mr. Turner, I watched the 60 Minutes episode with your story recently and you said something that caught my ear. I am with many thousands of people in the United States unemployed at this time. I have two little girls, a wonderful wife and a hefty mortgage. I am not looking for a handout. I am willing to work for my income but cannot find gainful employment. I really don't want to lose our home that we built in 2004 but if something doesn't come my way soon, that well may happen. What you have built in your life is truly remarkable. I wish I had the resources to accomplish 1/2 of what you have done. Anyway, my current financial problem is my mortgage and you said on 60 minutes that you are going to give away everything when the good Lord calls you. As I said, I am willing to work, but how I am going to pay my $220,000 mortgage leaves me in great stress. My wife is a local school teacher that doesn't make much. Not enough to pay the mortgage. Is there anything you can do to help us?? If it helps, I do enjoy all your TV networks and am a fan of the Atlanta Braves!!! Sincerely, Dave Garvey Penn Yan, New York

Not really. Al Qaeda is an organization which as a whole we are with. As opposed to Skinheads and Black Panthers which may be vile and repulsive, aren't waging war against us. I would be more concerned with the statement from Obama's camp about him being ready to 'RULE' day one. If this is his attitude, the fears and misgivings I've had about the man have already been proven true. The last 'ruler' we had was King George. Took an revolution to get rid of him, wonder how hard it will be to get rid of Obama?

If Obama can declare Skinheads a 'danger', what's to stop him from declaring College Republicans a danger, or the Minute Men on the mexican border? Freedeom does come with responsibility, but all groups must be given a voice. In my opinion, that's what sets us above the Germans or Japanese or China, and even really the Democrats who want to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine to shut up Talk Radio. With freedom does come responsibility. The Dixie Chicks learned that first hand, and probably still are since they can't sell any records, get any air play or get a good tour going. But I also think of that guy in Tiananmen Square standing in front of those tanks. http://www.timboucher.com/journal/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/tiananmen-square-tanks.jpg When the government takes away the rights of individuals to speak or express opposing points of view, that will be the responsibility we all will have. But will we have the courage of that lone man in front of those tanks? I surely hope so.

You may be right about that 1st Amendment stuff, but I'll cahllenge ya with Gitlow v. New York, 268 U.S. 652 (1925): {states could punish words that "by their very nature, involve danger to the public peace and to the security of the state." Lawmakers were given the freedom to decide which speech would constitute a danger} ... if that doesn't work, then maybe "change we can believe in" can get it done ... let's make it difficult for those organizations that espouse and commit hate crimes ... let's let Homeland security treat them as terrorists b/c that's exactly what they are ... and let's not be so liberal as to say that freedom doesn't come with responsibility.

Joe Sr, Sir! Can't legislate KKK, Skinheads, Black Panthers, Code Pink or any other psycho, moonbat organization with infringing on our first amendment rights. As distasteful as they are, all voices need the right to be heard. And ok, I'll say a few positive things about Obama. He's not Al Gore. He's not in office yet. He looks good in a suit. He gives great speeches (with a teleprompter). He dances better than McCain. Other than that, he's got to actually do something positive for me to say anything else positive about him. :)

I'd like to clarify something please. I was way to general with my ascertion that Obama voters did so out of selfishness. Upon further reflection, I'm sure there were many reasons and I feel I insulted those that made an honest effort to make the right choice. In my opinion the reasons peope voted for Obama were: 1. Race - he was black. Black people wanted to see a black man in the white house. Sherrie from the view is 40 yrs old and never voted in an election until this one. It's obvioius why. Nothing wrong with this desire, but it's not an intelligent way to pick a leader. 2. Hatred. Since the 2000 election thousands if not millions of people have hated Bush and the Republicans and would do anthing in their power to get them out of office. If you've ever listened to Air America you know what I mean. Again, not an intelligent way to pick a leader. 3. Old Habits: Some people vote Democrat (or Republican) and nothing else. My Father-in-Law couldn't stand Obama, but would not vote Republican, so he voted for Bob Barr. My Father wouldn't vote at all for President for the same reason. 4. Youth and immaturity: Idealistic individuals who are too young and too inexperienced in the ways of the world to know how things really work. This isn't a perfect world. It's great to strive for that, but you have to understand reality. 5. Moonbats: The far left wing idiots who have ideas and thoughts I can't begin to fathom. Those people who would sacrifice our country on the altar of Global Warming for example or Cindy Sheehan or the Code Pink crowd. 6. Idiots who bought hook, line and sinker all the hype, spin and propaganda from our media and hollywood. Although they're not moonbats, they're pretty close. And finally #7, those who calmly listened to the arguments, the speeches, the rhetoric, did some research, and formed an opinion based on thier findings, experience and desires. Although I don't understand how a person could be in the #7 group and vote for Obama, I certainly respect them for doing thier homework and trying to make an intelligent decision. In my opinion though, the people in the #7 group had to be the minority. Ok. I'm done now. Joe, love ya man. Joe Sr, Mark, love you guys too. Jeremy, it's great we live in a country where we can argue, disagree and discuss. In the end though we need to work together moving forward. Let's hope Obama breaks his track record and actually works with both sides of the aisle in Congress over the next 4 years.

OK, Joe E., there's the beef ... but let's face it guys and gals, it is what it is ... Obama is our President elect and I'm going to wait for him to be in office ... wait for his actions as our leader ... let's take a deep breath and all say something positive about President-elect Obama ... I'll start: he is a giant step forward towards final healing of the long standing civil rights wound in our country ... hope his administration enacts and enforces extremely strict anti-KKK legislation ... might as well throw in the skinheads ... let's flush the toilet!

A couple of points I’d like to toss in here: Jeremy: The character traits you seek in a good leader are very shallow and extremely immature. Used car salesmen have charisma and optimism, but I don’t want them leading my country. Here are some real qualities you may want to consider when choosing a leader. Honesty, Integrity, Decisiveness, Selflessness. A person who surrounds himself with people who possess these same traits. A good judge of character. A person willing to work with everyone on the team, not just ‘his’ clique. A person who will do what’s right, not what a focus group or lobbyist wants. And the most important trait you want in a leader is EXPERIENCE. I’m sorry, but Obama comes up short an all of these. Ask yourself a question and answer it honestly: If we were to experience an event such as the Cuban Missile Crisis, who would you want as the Commander in Chief? Who would you feel comfortable with protecting your family? Who would you want calling the shots? A man with the traits of a used car salesman? A man whose lack of integrity and poor judgment is blatantly obvious by his continued association with a known terrorist and racists? The sixty five million Americans who voted for Obama certainly had the freedom to do so, but they didn’t do so by considering the real traits of a leader. They did so for other more selfish reasons. We don’t need a leader who makes us feel good about ourselves. Anyone can blow sunshine up your ass. We need a leader who does what’s right. I think the most telling indicator that we made the wrong choice with Obama is the reaction of our enemies and competitors. They are applauding Obama’s election. Iran, Russia, Venezuela and the countries of the European Union are thrilled with this. And I guarantee you it’s not because Obama is good for America, it’s because he is good for them. Think about it.

Mark, I do agree that this may have helped in the mortgage issue but the mortgage situation only triggered a much larger problem. The real problem with the economy is twofold. 1. Commercial paper - read about "broke the buck" and commercial paper, and 2. CDS - Credit default swaps. There are believed to be $60 T+ in CDS worldwide. CDS is why Bears Sterns had to be bailed out when Lehman was left to go bankrupt. I agree, this stuff needs to be regulated. My thinking is that if Fannie and Freddie wouldn’t have melted down, this would have continued and because of the CDS, it would have totally destroyed the financial market. This is obviously not the optimal way of solving the problem; however, it does solve it before it there is no solution. I think that CDS is what needs to be regulated and that commercial paper needs to have governmental insurance (FDIC style) because leaving generations X, Y, and beyond to deal with these mistakes just isn’t fair. BTW: This really has little to do with Obama and what a great job he is going to do!

After studying the data in the Slate article (BTW, check this post out about Slate: http://particleman.reger.com/entry-logid7323-eventid112048-50-Ways-to-Tell-Youre.log), it's clear that interpreting the data has many flaws, but he missed one huge flaw completely, which is selection bias. Why does it start in 1957 toward the end of a Republican administration? Why not include all the Ike years. As it is, the data includes 29 years of Republican leadership and only 20 for Democrats. If you included all 8 years of Ike's administration, you would get a much different picture. But, I agree with Kinsey. The correlation does not prove causation. There are many exogenous factors such as the periods of peace in the 50s and 90s, discontinuous change in technology during the 90s and recessions that are global in nature. Interesting academic discussion, however. Guess I don't have enough to do...time to find a job.

Holy cow! Jeremy, if you want to learn, you have to dig a little deeper than one article in the Boston Globe. The article focuses on Republicans, but fails to mention Sen Dodd even once. He is the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee and the single largest recipient of donations from Fannie and Freddie. The Globe guy does mention that employees donated to Obama, but completely overlooks that Obama was second only to Dodd in corporate campaign donations from Fannie and Freddie. But, yes, that is the same bill and it is not, as the writer of the Globe article suggests, the Republicans who tried to kill the bill. MOST of the Republicans supported the bill. It was only the Democrats who were voting as a solid block. Thanks for the economic meltdown, guys.

Mark, is this the bill you are referring to? http://www.boston.com/business/articles/2008/10/20/freddie_mac_paid_2m_to_thwart_regulation/ Joe Sr, what kind of experience exactly makes one qualified to be president? It strikes me that the best kinds of leaders have charisma, cautious optimism, a vision, and the best interests of stakeholders in mind. I do think that Obama has those attributes. I don't know about you guys but I would rather have an inspired, optimistic, and charismatic leader at the helm.

Found this today. I'm sure Slate must be hyper-left leaning but the analysis looks fairly obvious. The argument I usually hear is that the Republicans spend eight years setting up the fundamentals so that the Democrats get great numbers. Not so sure I buy that when I also look at deficit spending numbers and take into account personal experience that economies seem able to turn at the quarter and year level. Nonetheless, the analysis does add a one year lag and the numbers don't change too much. Not exactly sure why I'm posting this as I'm sure that this whole Republican vs. Democrat thing is not a logical affair and adding data to the fold only opens the door to more commentary, interpretation, etc. But here goes: http://www.slate.com/id/2199810/

Yep, those guys have great ideas ... so do professors and academics ... great to dream and reach ... maybe he'd make a good consultant ... but when I'm looking for a CEO of our country, and the leader of the free world, I want experience ... Obama has none ... thank the lord that our system is bigger than any one executive ... he'll muddle thru with his dreams and inspire us to follow ... "yes, we can" ... "let's climb Mount Everest" ... "sure, have u done that before?" ... "nope, but we can do it - follow me" ... "I'm ready, let's go - no, wait"

Jeremy, I'm hurt. I'm no "lurker." I'm Joe's step-father. Also, Joe E. is no "lurker." He's Joe's friend. How about some love & tolerance? Your are right about the Republicans having control of the Senate in 2005, but the Hagel's bill never made it out of committee for a vote thanks to Democrats like Dodd in the Senate Banking Committee. It's rather well documented. By the way, there are still two political parties. If Obama winning 51.3% of the vote or Democrats picking up 5 seats in the Senate constitutes a mandate that translates into the implementation of Obama's agenda, then you can expect dire economic consequences within less than 4 years. It is a recipe for disaster. I sincerely hope that the remaining 44 Republicans in the Senate are able to mitigate the impact and then win back the Senate in the next election.

Joe, I am a bit concerned by the remarks of your lurkers. First in regards to Congress in 2005...unless I am losing my mind...the 109th Congress was made up of 55% Republican Senators and 53% Republican Representatives. Most importantly, the problems with the lack of regulation is much older than 2005. To be honest, they probably reach back more towards the Clinton years. BTW: where exactly do the Iraqi terrorists live? (Yes, I work for a war profiteer.) In general, I tend to agree with Lou. We should keep an open mind and look to the future rather than dwelling on the past. Obama has a lot of potential and hopefully he can try to use logic and diplomacy to help America in the future. Besides, who doesn't love when your glass is still half full?

Sheesh...glad to know there are so many smart people ^^^^^ out there...glad they've already gone four years into the future and have saved me the bother of sharing in the optimism and hope for a future any different than our current reality...Obama may or may not have been my choice; regardless, I'm d@mn glad I'm an American and have the right to vote and I'm sure as h3ll going to do my best trust in and play nice with what unfolds during the coming years...

Welcome to the new Depression era. The fate of the country is now sealed. First, the Democrats in Congress led us to the brink with their failure to act in 2005 to properly regulate the mortgage industry. Now we have the promise of higher taxes and $1 trillion in new social spending. Obama's plans for larger government programs in the social realm are not change, but a return to failed policies from the time of FDR and LBJ. The pendulum has already swung too far in the other direction, but that's just MHO. Joe E, I agree, but we may not be able to afford, or even find any good tequila in 4 years.

For Mr/MS anonymous, unreal expectations? Obama is an inexperienced, untested and untried individual. I have no expectations for anything from this man, 1 year or 8 yrs down the road. Reger, I'm glad you're happy. I'm glad this country can see past color and elect a black man, I'm glad we have the freedom to make this choice. I can't, however, share your enthusiasm about this guy. We need change for sure. Bush was a dissappointment and I dont agree with McCain on several things, but I don't agree with Obama on anything. He wasn't the right choice. Four years from now during the next election, let's go to a sports bar, pound back some Tequilla and see where we stand. Sound good?
